This project provides teachers and students with an interdisciplinary approach to the study of the famous novel Hatchet while learning about the science unit of Trees and Forests.
The project is designed to fit the needs of all levels of students, as it can be simplified for those who need less of a challenge, and more difficult who need more of a challenge with the extension included.

Provide students with a chance to really *show* how they understand Bernoulli's Principle through the use of stop motion video. (I recommend using iMotion). Comes with criteria of assignment, important scientific vocabulary, and assessment. Can be easily modified to your liking. Students will enjoy using technology to demonstrate their understanding of this science topic. Further extension of topic also included for students looking for an extra challenge.

Six simple experiments to demonstrate Bernoulli's principle in action. Using the scientific method for each centre, students predict what they think will happen and then record what actually happened. Space for students' writing, as well as drawings. Very concrete way to explain what can be a complicated concept. Students are fascinated and very surprised with the results.
An easy and quick pre assessment of students' knowledge of space before delving into the unit. Covers the content laid out in Alberta curriculum. Students can use as a study sheet near end of unit and can see how much much their knowledge has grown. They always enjoy seeing what they thought at the beginning of the unit compared to at the end.
Use math to understand the populations of towns and cities in Alberta. There is a provided list of over 20 towns in Alberta and their populations. Students each receive a town/city and break it down using different types of place value understanding. They can then view each others work to compare the sizes of these different places to better understand Alberta.
Use this sheet as a creative and engaging way for students to practice place value. Students are required to recognize place value up to 10,000, writing in standard form, word form, and expanded form. Then they create a machine in the end!
Students will work on writing fractions in word form, as a picture, in a set, and on a number line. The first line is provided as an example. Requires true focus on ways fractions can be shown.
An easy and quick pre assessment of students' knowledge of air, aerodynamics and flight before delving into the unit. Covers the content laid out in Alberta curriculum. Students can use as a study sheet near end of unit and can see how much much their knowledge has grown.
