About the store
I am an Australian Speech Language Pathologist and have been practising in Sydney, Australia for over a decade! Having worked in public and NGO settings, I now have a small private practice called Summer Hill Speech. Evidence based practice (EBP) is my favourite thing about SLP, but it is also hard work! I love, LOVE working with children, adolescents & adults to improve their communication abilities. A big part of this involves staying up-to-date with the latest research across a range of clinical practice areas, providing supervision to fellow SLPs, and working closely with school staff & other health professionals. I also deliver professional development in-services. The other things I love are: books, dogs and coffee. I also love sharing ideas and learning new things! If you share any of these interests, especially EBP, come and say hi on INSTAGRAM (@summerhillspeech)!

The Communication Bill of Rights was reviewed in 2016 by the National Joint Committee for the Communication Needs of Persons with Severe Disabilities (NJC), where they revised the previous version and stated a list of 15 fundamental communication rights. Every time I read this document, I am moved. There are no surprises at all in these 15 points, and I would go further to say that they should apply not just to people with disabilities, or AAC users, but all communicators (regardless of modalit

For a while, I was stumped. Our society/culture has changed in recent years, leading to new social norms regarding appropriate pronoun use. Yet children with language difficulties frequently have trouble using pronouns correctly. So a child with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) might have more trouble with modifying their pronoun usage, or using 'they' as a singular and plural pronoun (some of them might not!). I wanted to support my clients in using inclusive pronouns that are accepting o

This template is for Speech-Language Pathologists to use when reading clinical research, i.e. journal articles. Using evidence-based practice in your day-to-day practice can be very difficult, especially when trying to match the demands of a complex caseload, as well as a work/life balance. In order to help you, I’ve created this “Research Response” sheet which is a simple form that you can fill out to summarise any research paper you read. When you want to go back to that article, you’ll have

Teaching style

I love using a mixture of child-directed and curriculum-focussed tasks to support children and adolescents. Therapy sessions are frequently game-based, and change regularly... to stop the kids AND ME from getting bored.
