Teaching style

Rachel's teaching philosophy, inspired by a mentor's emphasis on giving students "freedom within structure," has led her to create motivating, challenging, and effective learning environments. She believes that students should love coming to school, a principle that guided her classroom practices and continues to inspire her TpT resources. Rachel aims to produce high-quality, user-friendly products that incorporate creative and critical thinking elements. Many of her resources are aligned with Common Core Standards, ensuring they meet rigorous educational benchmarks while engaging students in meaningful learning experiences. Cassi's teaching philosophy centers on fostering student-owned learning through the strategic use of technology. She creates environments where students actively engage, explore, and take charge of their education. Her innovative resources integrate technology to make learning fun, meaningful, and relevant, promoting independence, critical thinking, and a love for learning.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Rachel is an All-Time Top Ten Seller on Teachers Pay Teachers and holds the distinction of being the #1 seller for grades 3-5. In July 2015, she was honored to be a keynote speaker at the Teachers Pay Teachers Conference in Las Vegas, where she addressed approximately 1,400 TpT teacher-authors. Rachel has also presented at every subsequent TpT conference, sharing her insights and expertise with fellow educators. Cassi was honored as Teacher of the Year, a recognition that validated her dedication and hard work in the classroom. She has presented at the last five Teachers Pay Teachers conferences, sharing her knowledge and innovative teaching strategies with fellow educators. Additionally, Cassi serves on the TpT Seller Advisory Board, contributing her expertise to help shape the platform and support the TpT community.

My own education history

Rachel holds a BA in Developmental Psychology and a K-8 Teaching Certificate from Western Washington University. Her extensive experience includes teaching students from grades K-8, with a particular focus on highly capable third and fourth graders. Rachel has also taught technology and science across multiple grades, developing customized curricula to meet the unique needs of her students. This diverse background has equipped her with a deep understanding of educational practices and the ability to create effective, engaging resources for teachers and students alike. Cassi holds a Bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Stephen F. Austin State University and a Master's degree in Educational Leadership from the same institution. Her academic background has provided her with a strong foundation in both teaching and leadership, enabling her to create innovative and effective educational resources. This combination of expertise supports her commitment to fostering student-owned learning and integrating technology into the classroom.

Additional biographical information

Rachel lives with her husband and their two adorable terriers. When she's not creating educational materials, she enjoys traveling, painting, biking, hiking, playing tennis and ping-pong, board games, cooking comfort food, dancing, crocheting hats, and tending to her large collection of houseplants. Rachel is a published author of more than 120 nonfiction books for children on a variety of topics and serves on the board of Boom Learning. Cassi enjoys spending time with her creative family, including her husband, a master woodworker, and their two wonderful daughters. Her oldest daughter owns a beautiful floral design business, and her youngest is pursuing a career on Broadway. In her free time, Cassi loves traveling, making rugs, reading, playing board games, cooking comfort food, and singing karaoke. Together, they run www.Minds-in-Bloom.com, a site that supports over a million teachers a year!
