This is a great activity to do with you class when you are working on compound sentences. Cut apart the sentences and have each student draw two simple sentences out of a hat. Then cut up the conjunction words and have each student choose one out of a hat. The student must now put the two simple sentences together using the conjunction word they drew. These will make funny sentences but the kids really get the hang of combining two simple sentences into one compound sentence.
In this game, partners draw cards and answer problems involving multiplying by multiples of 10, 100, and 1,000. Example: 20 x 800 = 16,000. This is great practice for students to multiply the initial numbers as a basic multiplication fact and add the zeros to the end. The first partner to get four in a row wins.
Have students cut apart the sentences and glue them under the correct side, either first person or third person point of view. Then have students take a look at all the sentences and look for some "cue words" that the first person point of view sentences have in common and some "cue words" that the third person point of view sentences have in common.
Compound Sentence Hidden Letter Activity: Students color all boxes that contain a compound sentence red and ones that do not yellow. When done, it will reveal a letter of the alphabet. Students then create a compound sentence of their own using that letter. Great Self-Check activity! Key included.
This game is great for students to practice picking action verbs out of a sentence. It is a whole class game in which everyone needs to be participating.
This activity is a cut and paste activity in which students look at the underlined word/words in each sentence and decide what possessive pronoun they could replace it with. They paste the sentence in that section. Includes possessive pronouns his/her, their, our, and its. This could also be used as an assessment tool for possessive pronouns.
In this activity, students read each sentence. If there is a possessive pronoun in the sentence, they color the circle red. If there is not a possessive pronoun, they color it yellow. They then look at the picture and find what letter is in the picture. They write down a noun, verb, and pronoun that begin with that letter.
This pack includes a title score page for standard 3.RL.6. It also includes 3 assessments to assess mastery of the standard. I often use one as an initial assessment (pre-test), one as a post-test, and one to assess individuals after interventions.
Students will underline the pronoun in each of the sentences. They will then cut out the sentences and paste them in the correct box according to whether the pronoun works as a subject pronoun or an object pronoun.
This study guide/pretest is designed to be used with unit 8 of the 2015 Everyday Math 4 series. It works great as a pretest to assess what students know before beginning the unit or as a study guide to use as review before the test.
This pack includes 3 assessments for standard 3.RI.1: ask and answer questions (nonfiction). I often use one as an initial assessment (pre-test), one as a post-test, and one to assess individuals after interventions.

Then pass out a recording sheet to each student. Have one student stand by each card and they have ten seconds to answer the question in front of them. They should record their answer in that card numbers box on the recording sheet. After ten seconds, students rotate over one. Keep rotating until all students have a

I am a very hands-on teacher. My current class has MANY talkers and kids who tend to wiggle their way out of their seats so I keep my instruction fun and interesting to keep them entertained.
