During college, while I was studying to become a teacher and working in a counseling center, I volunteered at a Special Olympics event. I was deeply moved by the joy, strength, and individuality of the children there, and from that moment on I knew I wanted to dedicate my career to special education. Over the years, I have worked in elementary, middle, and high school special education, supporting students with a wide range of needs and abilities. My experience includes working in resource classrooms, alternative educational settings, and behavior support programs, where I focused on meeting students where they are and helping them grow with confidence and dignity.
After 15 years in the field, I shifted my focus to supporting my daughter, Ava, who was diagnosed with autism at the age of two and non-verbal, full-time—and from that journey, Ava Has Autism was created. My goal now is to share the same compassionate, structured, and empowering approach with other families, teachers, and students.
