Description
This bundle includes 4 resources.
Resource #1 - Printable ASTC/CAST Poster
This poster can be used multiple ways:
- Individual reference sheet for students to use while studying
- Incorporated into notes
- Printed on a larger scale up to 18x24 inches - helpful if your school has a poster maker that can print out large image files.
Resource #2 - Discovering CAST/ASTC for Trig (Exploration Activity)
This resource is a great exploration activity for Pre-Calc to introduce evaluating trig functions and a great transition to the Unit Circle. ASTC stands for All Students Take Calculus, or sometimes referred to as CAST.
It includes the following:
- Discovery activity where students plot the "same" coordinate in all 4 quadrants to write all 6 trig ratios (sin, cos, tan, csc, sec, cot).
- This can be used as a class activity, flipped classroom, independent activity after a quiz, etc.
- At the end, there is an opportunity to have a class discussion about what they discovered and you can create the ASTC poster with them.
Resource #3 - Evaluating Trig Functions Using CAST/ASTC
This resource includes notes on how to evaluate trig functions given two different scenarios. I teach this lesson directly after my students discover the CAST/ASTC method.
- Steps on how to evaluate all 6 trig functions given a coordinate.
- 2 practice problems with being given a coordinate.
- Steps on how to evaluate all 6 trig functions given a trig ratio.
- 3 practice problems with being given a trig ratio.
- 2 practice problems where students determine which quadrant to draw a triangle in given parameters.
- The practice problems also include radicals and rationalizing denominators.
Resource #4 - RRCV Notes & Practice (Evaluating Trig Functions w/o a Calc)
This resource includes notes on what RRCV is and how to use it to evaluate trig functions. The resource includes the following:
- Notes on what each step of RRCV is.
- 10 practice problems where students evaluate trig functions without the use of a calculator. They must use reference angles, the hand trick, and CAST/ASTC to evaluate trig functions.
- The practice problems include radians and degrees, as well as all 6 trig functions.
Ready to move onto the Unit Circle? Notes and practice are available, as well as other trig resources.
Enjoy!
