Description
We all want to ensure that we support our nonverbal students. This simple, clear resource does just that for your addition and subtraction lessons. You may also have lower functioning students who need the procedures broken down into discrete steps.
For addition, your students will be able to make two sets of items, then add them together along the bottom of the mat. The numbers along the bottom support the student in answering the equation. You may have the student name the total by pointing to the number on the mat, writing a number, using AAC, or selecting a number card.
For subtraction, your students will be able to make a set of items, separate an amount from that, and find the answer by counting along the bottom of the mat. The numbers along the bottom support the student in answering the equation. You may have the student state the answer by pointing to the number on the mat, writing a number, using AAC, or selecting a number card.

You can also show these videos to your students to familiarize them with the procedure, or to review the procedure after you have taught them.
