Use this resource to target the following skills:

Accurate use of pronouns to describe pictures.

Specific targets: He/She

Use of three-word phrase: “He/She feels ___.”

*Have your students over-articulate these short phrases with a slowed

rate and an appropriate volume.

Identifying and labeling emotions based on: facial expressions and body language.

Imitating facial expressions to communicate a specific emotion.

*I recommend using a mirror or camera to help your student’s

understand the faces they are making.

Inferencing skills:
Ask your students to find the non-verbal clues that help them KNOW how the child in the picture is feeling.
Prompt your student to LOOK at the environment. What about THIS show might be making this student feel the way they are feeling.

Compare and contrast how different children are feeling different emotions at the SAME show.

Prompt a discussion among your small group, have them share how they would feel at this show and WHY. Are there differing opinions?

Practice accepting other’s opinions/feelings even if they are NOT the same as ours. How do we do this politely while also being authentic?

State what a person MAY be THINKING based on their facial expressions.
Also state what a person may SAY in this situation, based on his/her facial expressions.

Social problem solving:
If a child is demonstrating a negative emotion like sadness, anger or fear. Have your students problem-solve a solution for this child in the picture.

What could your student say to that child if he or she was actually there.

To make this activity a bit more fun…
Pair it with a youtube video that is related to the Circus.
