Description

These interactive, hands-on, real world Math activities help students explore the fascinating intersection of Math and Art in a new and engaging way. Through daily activity prompts (1-10 minutes each), students will explore tessellations, fractals, Fibonacci numbers, Pi, symmetry, and much more!

This is the second of a year-long series of “Math for Fun” units. Each unit provides a month’s worth of daily Math activities designed to expose kids to fun, interactive, beyond-the-textbook Math concepts.

These units are designed to be:

Fun

  • To help break down barriers of math anxiety
  • To help students enjoy thinking mathematically
  • To expand students’ view of Math beyond skill and drill worksheets

Fast

  • 1-10 minutes / day
  • 24 activities per unit

Real-World

  • Math that relates to students’ interests
  • Math that can be seen in their environment (indoors, outdoors, in art, etc.)

Hands-on

  • Students will interact with Math through hands-on activities, data collection, drawing, modeling, experiments, brief research, conversations, and more!

Differentiated

  • Each activity has multiple levels so that students of all ages can participate in these units together.

You can find the individual units in my TPT store here (more will be added throughout the year)

OR

get the complete set of 10 activity units through my Teachable school here. (Use coupon code MATHISFUN to get the complete set during pre-launch mode for only $27.)

How to use this unit:

  • Print out the activity cards/pages. You can work through them in order, draw a card randomly, or pick and choose which activities your kids want to do.

  • Each activity is differentiated to make the activity suitable for a wide range of ages and ability levels. You can choose which version of each activity to use (or kids can self-select). This way your entire family can participate in these units together with everyone entering in at an appropriate challenge level.

  • If you want to use the Bingo boards, print off one board for each child participating. Numbers are in different positions on each board. Each child will mark off the number of the activity as they go. If you have more than 4 children using this unit and you want them to each have boards with numbers in different positions, use the DIY boards and have them randomly fill in numbers 1 – 24.

  • A prize is provided at the end of the unit. You can use this as a participation prizes based on getting 5 in a row, 2 rows, a black-out, etc.
